By: Jean-Louis Houde (13) 2001 edition, French and English. Format 6 x 9, colour plasticized cover. Twelve chapters with 380+ pages, 70+ illustrations and 9 page bibliography. Price: 30.00
This is a revised edition of the 1994 book which was the first known publication that takes us through the daily life and times of Louis Houde and our ancestors from the 1600's to the early 1900's. The author describes life in France, the long ship journey to North America and day-to-day life in Quebec. He also examines later French Canadian migrations to other parts of Canada and to the Eastern and Midwestern United States to the early 1900's. This book does not concentrate on names and dates as much as allowing us to experience everyday life in France, Quebec, Canada, and the United States for our early ancestors.
Artist Claire Houde (223) permitted the use of three of her colour paintings of Sainte-Croix and Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly village street and house scenes to illustrate the front and back covers of this book.
