Interpretation
The silver field and red chevrons are symbols of Perche, the mother-land of the progenitor. On the viewer's right, the green background recalls the fields and forests where many of the descendants of Louis Houde and Madeleine Boucher earned their livelihood. The rose with gold petals in the form of the fleur-de-lis symbolise Sainte-Croix de Lotbiniere (the cradle of the family in the New World), Quebec and France. The trowel refers to the craft of Louis, a mason by trade, and is in gold since it symbolises the means of supporting his family. The two blades of wheat, each with seven grains, represent Louis and Madeleine and their fourteen children.
The Motto "Souviens-toi et grandis" may be translated as "Remember and Grow" (presumably in "grace and favor" as well as materially. The Shield and the Motto have been adopted by the Administrative Council of DLHMB (1655) inc.
